Narrative report – Stei, 27 - 30. 05. 2014.
Travelling to Stei was special in many ways. Thanks to its location, Stei was the most difficult to reach for most of the groups, and thank to the quality of the roads around the town it was the most adventurous too. Driving through the small Romanian villages and the countryside was the first meeting with the local culture – great experience! And this was the first meeting, we had a one-man “filming crew” with us, to shoot a short film about the meeting and about our project in general.
We arrived to Stei with mixed emotions, which made our journey even more special: those, who met before were happy to see each other again, and we all were full of expectations to meet new members of the Back to the Future family. Happy and excited on one hand and a bit sad on the other, knowing, that this was the final meeting of the project.
We started early in the morning with visiting the school Avram Iancu. Participants had a chance to talk to younger pupils with excellent English, and also to test each other’s football and volleyball abilities in the gym of the School.
The more formal part of the program involved some speeches from the headmaster, the major of Stei, and the project leaders too, followed by the presentations of the activities. In the afternoon project leaders had a partner meeting while participants visited local sights of Stei. We all had a traditional Romanian dinner at the school with a Romanian folk dancing for dessert.
Next day was dedicated to the local culture: visiting the neighbouring town ‘Beius’, its fair and ethnographic and local history museum, where the bravest could dress up like traditional Romanian shepherds. After lunch we met the nature’s beauty in the region: we had a guided tour in the Bears cave.
The final dinner of the visit and of the whole project was the cherry on top: Back to the Future participants were invited to a traditional graduation dinner and party. Good luck to the graduating students of Avram Iancu! We will never forget this night.
Good luck to all the participants of Back to the Future project! We will never forget this project and experience!
